In the 30-second video, Pan is seen jostling the teen and accusing her of stealing. She was later visited by Dancehall artiste Mr Vegas who encouraged her to apologise to the child.
Yuemei Pan Apologizes
Yuemei Pan, the 53-year-old Chinese businesswoman who was seen slapping a girl she accused of stealing in her store, has apologized to the child. The apology came on Monday after she was visited by dancehall artiste Mr Vegas and several residents of the Clarks Town community in Trelawny.
Mr Vegas said that he had recommended that the businesswoman apologize to the girl because it was important for her to show the public that she is remorseful. The businesswoman later filmed herself in front of the child as she apologised, and they were captured on camera sharing a hug.
The incident sparked outrage and calls for the businesswoman to be arrested, but she was freed from court after no evidence was offered. She subsequently closed her store. She also resigned from her position as spokeswoman for the Presidential Office. She cited a lack of time for her family as the reason. A new spokesperson for the Presidential Office has since been appointed. The new spokesperson is a former military officer. He will take over from Kolas Yotaka.
Bail Extensions
